Payment gateway data breach affects 1.7 million credit card owners

Payment gateway service provider Slim CD has disclosed a data breach that exposed the credit card and personal information of approximately 1.7 million people.

In a notice sent to affected customers, the company said the hackers accessed its network for approximately a year between August 2023 and June 2024. Access to electronic payments and cards via web terminals, mobile or desktop applications.

The company first detected suspicious activity on its machines on June 15 this year.

– No authorized access was found in searches conducted on August 17, 2023 and June 15, 2024, – Notifications were sent to affected individuals.

However, Slim CD said that criminals threatened to view or obtain credit card information over two days on June 14 and 15 this year. “This access could allow an unauthorized person to view or obtain certain credit card information between June 14, 2024 and June 15, 2024,” Slim CD’s criminal record said.

The types of information that unauthorized parties may access include:

– Name

– Address

– Credit card number

– Payment card expired

While the information provided is not enough for cybercriminals to commit fraud, the risk of credit card fraud still exists due to the lack of a card verification code (CVV).

Slim CD said it has taken steps to strengthen security to prevent similar incidents in the future.
